Stuck in Drain

StuckSnow girlFireballThe Horse TroughFront StepsHaven’t written in a bit because the snow storm kept us at home for a couple of days and busy for several more. Drain is the tiny town I live in and Sunday and Monday we were unable to get off our street. I know because I tried on Monday and ended up stuck in a ditch. Got towed out Tuesday morning, made it to work and school late then when we got home at night, found that the snow plow had piled a wall of snow and ice across the bottom of our driveway. Our driveway is long and steep and unpaved so I hadn’t planned on driving up it but I couldn’t even park at the bottom. So I tried to park in a very small dirt lot across the street and I got stuck again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. The next morning I took old carpet hallway runners down and put them behind my rear tires and after a few tries, managed to drive out and get to work. Late again but at least I made it. If it wasn’t for all the driving hassles, I would really love the snow, which surprises me because I was born and raised in Southern California and had only been in snow a few times my whole life. It was wet and cold and I wasn’t too fond of it. It’s different now. There’s something magical about living in the country and being able to sled down hills on your own property. And it’s fun watching the chickens run around with their wings outspread, trying to keep as much of their bodies out of the snow as possible. The cats are funny, too. Our fat black and white boy, Gordie, just stands where dropped and won’t move until picked up again. Artie, the little tiger catArtie, walks around on tippy toes, yowling. (Their full names are Artemis and Gorden. They aren’t litter mates but we adopted them at the same time from Greenhill Animal Shelter in Eugene and we wanted them to have related names. Wild Wild West fans will understand.)

Next week I’m hoping to get back to visiting and writing about places in Cottage Grove.

PS We measured down into one of our deepest footprints in the snow and it was 9 1/2 inches.
